AEC ROUTEMASTER (Fleet No RME1)
This bus was one of 65 built in November 1966 for British European Airways BEA3 in blue and white livery. It became BEA orange and white in 1970 and then later British Airways blue & white in 1973. London Transport purchased it in 1979 (renumbered RMA29) and then later removed its staircase to covert it into a training bus. It went north in 1988 to concerns for spares or scrap before being bought by Shaftesbury & District in March 1992.
In 1996 a rebuild took place including adding an extra window bay in the centre. This increased the vehicle lenght to 32' 6". The staircase was replaced and moved back and also the screen was taken out behind the driver with the area modified so that fares could be collected. It entered service in 2000.
