WELCOME

The Wessex Transport Society was formed in 1983 by a group of tranpsort enthusiasts from the Bournemouth area, where it still has its 'spiritual home' and roots.

From an early beginning in the 1980s, we have grown to a membership of more than 250 in number, from all walks of life and we have members in Spain, the United States and even as far away as Australia!

Regular meetings are held during the winter evenings, (September until April), which take the form of slide shows and talks, with light refreshments provided during the interval, for which a small entry fee is charged to cover costs.

The Summer months (April to September) see members of the society enjoying days out to transport related venues and events, such as open days and bus rallies. These prove very popular and are organized at very reasonable costs too.

Membership of the society, which currently costs £11, includes the bi-monthly magazine 'Wessex Review'; containing news photographs and articles covering both local national and international topics of interest. This is very much regarded as the backbone of the society.

For the last 4 years, the society has also organized its annual Festival of Transport, held at Avon Heath Country Park near Ringwood in the New Forest, in mid-August.
This year will be no exception as we look forward to welcoming visitors once again for what is very much a family day out for the enthusiast and non-enthusiast alike. Preserved buses give free rides on local routes to quaint areas of the New Forest, and there are various stalls, besides our very own.

Now you know a little about who we are, where we are and what we do, feel free to wander around our website and visit the other sections.
